The ATH-G1 headset is well engineered, remarkably lightweight and excels in producing incredible detail for both music and game play. I would consider myself a hobbyist gamer and an entry to medium-level audiophile with an obsession for obtaining the best possible sound quality at a reasonable price.Out of the box they sounded decent, but given time, they produced an open sound stage that is rich in detail with a very satisfying bottom end.To fast track burn-in, I ran the headphones on an old cellphone with a 15-hour Amazon playlist set to medium volume. Prior to burn-in, I used a reference track that I am very familiar with; Michael Hedges - Aerial Boundaries, Track 4 on SACD played through my Teac CD 1000 SACD Player and driven by my Music Hall a70.2 integrated amp. After burn-in, the headphones sounded noticeably different with greater detail to the mid’s, a much punchier lower end response and a large open sound stage.Since confirming the headphones reproduce favorable music playback, I was quite keen to try them with my PS VR, and, if you have used the PS VR for any length of time, you will be grateful for Audio-Technica’s careful selection of engineered lightweight materials. Shooting any weapon in Farpoint is satisfying to say the least but adding the ATH-G1 headset brings a further sense of realism. Until Dawn Rush of Blood is an absolute blast to play and the ATH-G1 headset opens up the sound stage, which again brings more enjoyment to the overall experience. Revisiting Resident Evil 7 biohazard has been pleasantly terrifying with the headset providing greater depth to each startling scene. This gaming headset comes from some serious pedigree, and has so far, exceeded expectations.
